How excited should we get from Phil Collins performing a tune of popular Motown hits? Before we answer this question, it should first be noted that Collins, witness his 1982 version of You Can't Hurry Love by Diana Ross & The Supremes, has long been a part of the huge army of loyal Motown fans. Furthermore, he is the only one of a huge amount of artists who, at the time, The Funk Brothers, the
… musicians behind Motown's huge hit treasury, actually paid their respects by helping them get back to work. The repertoire is played faithfully to the original version by a convincing band that sounds like this is their daily task. The only downside is Collins himself who looks like a constipated bookkeeper who discovered the karaoke machine during a company outing. His shrill voice doesn't match the warm, deep soul vocals of the originals. As extras, you can admire recordings of the rehearsal and an interview with Collins. (AD)more
