Guitarist Steve Lukather and keyboardist / saxophonist Edgar Winter are both renowned American session musicians who also regularly take to the solo path. Individually they would not draw full houses with it, but as a duo they guaranteed a well-filled Statenhal in 2000 at the (then still The Hague) North Sea Jazz Festival. This DVD reports on this in all its roughness. The images seem to be the same
… that are shown on a video screen during a concert in the immense hall, and during the first track we hear how the hall sound is adjusted. The performance is above all a cozy get-together between the two mature celebrities. Both can turn out as soloists in, among other things, a version of Redhouse (by Jimi Hendrix, although on the cover the duo is presented as composer) and a drawn-out rock 'n' roll medley. The highlight is the closing track Frankenstein, the only hit by Winter from the seventies, with nice pumping vintage synthesizer playing. The gentlemen know how to entertain an audience, as this entertaining DVD testifies. (MR)more
