The sleeves of Osibisa's early records tell us in which angle we can place this inventive group. Exotic fantasy animals fly around an African landscape full of psychedelic colors. Woyaya, the second album from 1971, is one of the better albums of the London group. In the seven songs on this album, the group draws from jazz and psychedelic rock. The harmonious singing and rousing percussion betray
… the African and Caribbean origins of the band members. While James Brown and Fela Kuti fiddled with such a sound in America and Africa respectively, Osibisa did so in Europe. Unfortunately, the group has never been the success of those artists. Woyaya proves how unfortunate and unjust that is. (PdK)more
