In the early 1970s, Osibisa shared stages with Pink Floyd and The Rolling Stones, and perhaps more importantly, they introduced Western youth to the blessings of a good West African groove. In the early eighties the group fell into obscurity, but in 2010 the group is back with a new album. Band leader Teddy Osei emphasizes in interviews that the band never quit and that there is now no question of
… a reunion album. Let's talk about a successful restart. Lovers of Osibisa's early albums can go and listen to Osee Yee blindly. The afro beat rhythms are complemented by rock licks, funky brass punches, a pinch of disco and the occasional light-footed highlife. Supplemented with young blood, the group continues to steam as usual. It makes us look forward to gigs that the group will hopefully bring back to the Netherlands. (PdK)more
