With Flowers In The Dirt, Paul McCartney hit back hard. At the end of the 80s things went a little less for the ex-Beatle. Of course he was still famous, but appreciation for his work was declining. His solo albums were less successful than those of and in the 60s and 70s. That had to change. McCartney decided to challenge himself. The best producers and session musicians also had to get the best
… out of him. With he wrote a lot of good songs, including the classic My Brave Face. The result was appreciated by the press and the public. The production was nice and modern and the songs of old-fashioned high level. Flowers In The Dirt was an ideal starting shot for a series of successful world tours. Those performances were largely based on old successes, but McCartney was a lot more relevant thanks to his comeback. However, Flowers In The Dirt turned out not to be timeless, the clinical 80s sound was quickly outdated. The re-release offers an interesting bonus disc with demos that McCartney made with Elvis Costello. Here we hear two great pop authors at work! (JE)more
