With the release of In Another Life (2015), Bilal has two thoughts. The neosoul singer continues to make good music and yet he does not surpass his debut. Since his first album 1st Born Second (2001), Bilal has been praised for his agile voice. His experimental productions also deserve applause. For his fourth record, the American handed over part of the creative process to producer Adrian Younge.
He leaves a huge mark on the numbers. His love for vintage soul and real instruments creates a relaxed atmosphere. The raw sound clashes nicely with Bilal's sweet R&B vocals. You hear instruments that you don't often hear on soul or R&B records. The electric sitar, acoustic drums and vibraphone make it really special. This makes this album almost as impressive as 1st Born Second fourteen years earlier. (JE)more
