Little unhappy girls grow up. And find - as in the case of Heather Nova - happiness. Three photos in the CD booklet show the development from toddler to the established singer in 2015: 47 years old, married, with a ten-year-old son. Very beautiful, but since the magisterial Oyster (1994) - on which she dealt with the traumas of her youth - unfortunately it has only gradually led to sensational music.
On The Way It Feels, the lyrics often seem to come from a fairy tale book by son Seb. Lots of water (little Heather grew up on a boat with her hippie parents) and more flora and fauna: dragons, birds, and dogs. 'The dogs are sleeping, they say let sleeping dogs lie, but I say wake them up, and see if they can fly.' This ninth studio album was funded by diehard fans through the Pledgemusic site, and they will also find something to their liking. Sea Glass, for example, is reassuringly beautiful, and Heather Nova still sings enchantingly. This way the singer from Bermuda can go on for years, happily ever after. (RME)more
