After two albums full of genuine afrobeat, the guys from Jungle By Night must have thought it was time for something different. The expansion to funk is a pretty obvious step, add some sharp hip-hop beats and spaced out rock tunes and you get a picture of the new sound of Jungle By Night. The horn section remains in Ethiopia for most of the record and shows that they have the work of have studied
… in great detail. Furthermore, Jungle By Night has probably also watched a few blaxploitation movies, because Tasmatica can be used to support a particularly exciting film scene. The band also understands that small structural changes can give a whole new angle to afrobeat. Like the four-to-the-floor beat under Atilla, which gives the song an African disco feeling.
