In his previous band Daryl-Ann, Anne Soldaat worked fraternally with Jelle Paulusma. Two years after the band broke up in 2004, Jelle released his solo debut Paulusma, a fairly adventurous album on which he did his best to escape the suffocating conventions of a pop group. Conventions that Soldier is far from tired of, as can be heard on the first album by his new band Do The Undo. Anyone who compares
… the two plates can draw a cautious conclusion about the former dynamics between the two, with Paulusma as the artistic conscience towards the craftsman Soldier. Nevertheless, the latter has also evolved. The man who in Daryl-Ann provided the sweet songs with fierce guitar interruptions from time to time, now presents himself mainly as a singer, a role he plays meritoriously. Although the record certainly has its moments, Do The Undo remains stuck too much in ruminating on Soldier's past to be able to speak of a truly surprising debut. (MS)more
