The Beta Band may be from Great Britain, but it certainly doesn't make Britpop in the traditional sense of the word. The band opts for a less obvious mix of funk and strange soundscapes. Heroes To Zeroes is the third album in seven years and the most accessible so far; The group's previous records were even crazier. This is due to the departure of Lone Pigeon, who was known as The Beta Band's biggest
… fool. Accessible or not, the album still evokes unusual comparisons in the listener. One song sounds like an organ tune á la Stevie Wonder, the other like Pink Floyd in a sea of echo. The Beta Band is rightly called the most idiosyncratic group in Great Britain. (JdD)more
