Singer / songwriter Peter Malick was looking hard for a good voice for his songs in the summer of 2000, when he heard Norah Jones singing in a nightclub purely by accident. Although Jones initially doubted she had enough affinity with Malick's blues style, he managed to persuade her to do a few gigs and a recording session with his band. Thus it happened. Norah Jones subsequently caused a furore
… with her debut album Come Away With Me (2002) on Blue Note Records. Norah Jones 'cooperation is enough to justify the release of Malick's album, although it is questionable whether this album would have had a chance with a major record company without Jones' star status. Not all songs are equally strong, although there are certainly some gems to be discovered. For example, the opener New York City, or the Bob Dylan cover Heart Of Mine. Those who have fallen for Come Away With Me will not fall for this charming mini album (only six songs and a bonus track). (MS)more
