The Californian rap formation Jurassic 5 consists of not five, but six members. In addition to four MCs / rappers, these are the brilliant DJs Cut Chemist and DJ Nu-Mark. The group has been around since 1993 and Power In Numbers is their third CD. The versatile Quality Control (2000) received a lot of critical acclaim, especially for its original beats and samples. With Power In Numbers, Jurassic
… 5 continues down its course. They still make a very pleasant, civilized form of hip-hop in which there are hardly any curses or swear words. The single What's Golden contains a striking sample of fellow rappers Public Enemy, but they also use some fragments from very obscure jazz songs to make it a swinging whole. The song that stands out for me is Thin Line. This duet with Nelly Furtado, which is based on a sample of the song Les Fleurs (Minnie Riperton / 4 Hero) could well become the first hit for Jurassic 5 in the Netherlands. (MvP)more
