The Belgian Hooverphonic, which previously operated under the name Hoover, became known in 1996 for their collaboration on the soundtrack of Stealing Beauty, a film by Bernardo Bertolucci. A year later, the debut CD New Stereophonic Sound Spectacular followed, on which they showed themselves as a follower of the very popular Portishead at the time. The successor Blue Wonder Power Milk was more of
… a mix between electronics and acoustic instruments, while extensive string and wind arrangements were examined on The Magnificent Tree. This latest CD introduced Jackie Cane, a fictional singer who went down to the joys of stardom. She plays (how could it be otherwise) the lead role on Jackie Cane, a CD that connects all the previous of Hooverphonic by adding a good dose of pop with a high easy tune content. This theatrical turn in Hooverphonic's repertoire works well and results in thirteen songs that are very pleasant to listen to. (AD)more
