The British duo Lamb consists of singer Louise Rhodes and producer Andy Barlow and was founded in 1994 in Manchester. Lamb was the first to combine vocals with jungle and drum 'n' bass rhythms, just like Kosheen. The first album Lamb and the singles Cotton Wool and Gorecki were innovative and very successful, despite the fact that the songs were not always accessible due to the ambient style and
… the racing drum machine. Lamb continued this concept on Fear Of Fours (1999), albeit with slightly less commercial impact. All the more success there was on stage, where Lamb was regularly seen. With an interval of three years, the album What Sound is released, which contains a number of hit sensitive songs (What Sound, Sweet and Gabriel). What is also striking is that the time of heavy breakbeats and a-rhythmic drum computers is over. Instead, you hear beautifully sung and atmospheric songs wrapped in calm, down-tempo drum 'n' bass rhythms. Lamb's music has shifted somewhat from the dance floor to the living room in a genre that in 2001 is no longer that striking anyway. That makes What Sound a beautiful but not really spectacular album. (BP)more
