Longtime John Mayall has long earned a statue for having guitarists like Eric Clapton, Mick Taylor, Peter Green and Sonny Landreth debut in his Bluesbreakers. Although he is now 67 years old (!), He still makes music. On Along For The Ride he gets help from an impressive series of 'friends'. To give an impression, we name Gary Moore, Peter Green, Otis Rush, Steve Cropper, Mick Fleetwood, Billy F.
Gibbons (ZZ Top), Steve Miller, Chris Rea and Jeff Healey. They all play or sing their part on one of the thirteen songs. Mayall this time chose songs by Walter Trout (Put It Right Back), Tony Joe White (Yo Yo Man) and The Delgado Brothers (If I Don't Get Home and Something About My Baby). It is no longer as innovative or special as it was 35 years ago, but the mere fact that these old men can still have so much fun together makes this a pleasant CD. (MvP)more
