Roger Hodgson was the voice of the group Supertramp until 1982. His characteristic high voice and compositions like School, Dreamer, The Logical Song and Give A Little Bit largely determined the sound of this band. After Hai Hai, Open The Door is his first studio album in ten years. Not much has actually changed, his voice is still recognizable, but his compositions no longer reach that high level
… as in his heyday with Supertramp. We still encounter some of the old shine in The More I Look and also Say Goodbye, Hungry, the acoustic Love Is A Thousand Times and Showdown, with his characteristic trailing harmonica, are still quite okay with it. For the rest Hodgson indulges in much too long-winded, unattractive songs like Along Came Mary, Death And A Zoo and the title track Open The Door. (CK)more
