Many groups rarely manage to surpass a strong debut, this is not the case with Kapok. This Dutch trio only gets better per album, as witnessed by their third piece Glass To Sand. Kapok flourished around 2012 from the Utrecht creative workshop Kytopia. Horn player plays in 's hip hop orchestra and got the chance to record the first album by his own trio in Kytopia. Supplemented with guitarist
… and drummer they subsequently also developed live into a close-knit, instrumental band that feels at home on both jazz and pop stages. On Glass To Sand they sound self-assured in 10 songs that swing and rock as well as grind and twist. Due to the small and unusual line-up, the three members demand the same amount of space and they collectively fly in all directions - from sparkling afro-funk to lumbering rock. It is the art of a special trio that this never gets out of control and that it always sounds catchy. (MR)more
