Our Man In Paris from 1963 is one of the most successful Blue Note albums of the 1960s and one of Dexer Gordon's best. Although his tenor sax occasionally skips, it is a perfect example of late bebop. Our Man In Paris was, as the title says, recorded in the French capital, where Gordon stayed for some time. There he met bebop veteran pianist Bud Powell and drummer Kenny Clarke, who had also fled
… the hectic pace of New York and enjoyed the prestige of (black) jazz musicians in Europe in Paris. Together with Powell, Clarke and French bassist Pierre Michelot, Gordon has everything under control. The ballad Willow Weep For Me is portrayed sensitively, and the bebop classic A Night in Tunisia is skilfully treated. A jazz classic from the premier league.more
