After successful CDs for Blue Note and Verve, guitarist John Scofield switched to Emarcy. This Meets That is the first CD for this label. Just like on En Route, 'Sco' is accompanied by bassist Steve Swallow and drummer Bill Stewart; on some songs supported by a horn section. The CD contains nine of those typical Scofield songs with catchy melody lines and a nice groove. Furthermore two striking
… evergreens: House Of The Rising Sun (with guest Bill Frisell) and Satisfaction van de Stones. Scofield chose these classics because they were the first songs he learned to play on guitar. The title This Meets That seems to refer to the combination of both. The songs are undeniably jazzy, but Scofield pulls out a good dose of effects here and there. A party! (HB)more
