It has gone fast with Maria Rita. At the age of 24 she started singing professionally and six years and three albums later, she is a celebrated star in her home country Brazil and was already allowed to build an extra box to store her Grammys there. On previous albums Maria Rita mainly sang bossa and jazz, but this third album is an ode to the heartbeat of Brazil: the samba. Samba Meu is a wonderfully
… hip-rocking album in which especially the excellent arrangements of her backing band distinguish themselves positively. The comparisons with her mother, the legendary singer Elis Regina, will always bother Maria Rita. Not quite rightly so, because Meu Samba proves that Maria Rita can deliver an album that can easily survive without famous antecedents. (PdK)more
