Wu-Tang Clan is probably the most important rap group in the nineties. The debut album Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) (1993) of the nine-member New York collective was groundbreaking and highly influential, and since then the Clan and the individual members are not indispensable. At least as important as the lyrics and the vocal qualities of the MCs was producing RZA, whose distinctive style to a
… great extent the sound of the certain group. After Enter The Wu-Tang was the focus on the solo careers of several members, especially Method Man, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, GZA and Ol'Dirty Bastard were successful - all with CD's produced by RZA. The second Clan album Wu-Tang Forever was published in 1997. Also skip the side projects continued with solo careers, a clothing line, soundtracks and the Clan affiliated projects Killarmy and Wu-Tang Killa Bees. In addition, Ol 'Dirty Bastard came more than once in the news due to several clashes with US justice. On the third album The W (2000) he was therefore only heard once. The popularity of the group is by over-exposure 'and qualitatively less strong material by now fallen, but the Clan comes back strong with Iron Flag (2001). A special mention, finally, the Dutch Wu-Tang protégé Cilvaringz, a student at the Tilburg Rock Academy, which along with RZA is working on a solo album. (IV)more
