Jack DeJohnette debuted as a jazz drummer in the sixties of the last century and has played with John Coltrane, Charles Lloyd, Thelonious Monk and Keith Jarrett. In 1969 he joined Miles Davis' Bitches Brew. In the seventies he was more or less the regular session drummer for the ECM label and recorded with Jan Garbarek, John Abercrombie and others. Together with Abercrombie and Dave Holland he formed
… the Gateway Trio. In 1978 he founded his New Directions including Abercrombie and Lester Bowie, and in 1980 his acclaimed Special Edition. He belongs to Keith Jarretts longstanding Standards Trio.more
