Lena Horne began as a jazz singer in the famous Cotton Club, but broke through as an actress. She was one of the first dark actresses in Hollywood. In 1947 she married conductor Lennie Hayton. In subsequent years, she focused more on her singing career. For the albums The Lady And Her Music (1981) and An Evening With Lena Horne (1995), the singer was honored with a Grammy.
