The Meters from New Orleans are considered one of the founders of funk. The group, founded by the Art and Cyril Neville (both later also active in The Neville Brothers) emerged in the late sixties. The Meters initially worked primarily as the house band of Alain Toussaint Sansu label. Songs like Look-Ka Py Py and Cissy Strut demonstrated Meters sound: raw, bare and funky.
