Three years after the excellent The Loving Kind (2009), Nanci Griffith comes with a beautiful, modest follow-up, called Intersection. It is already the twentieth album by the American singer / songwriter ever discovered by Tom Russell. With Intersection she immerses herself in her own psyche and that of contemporary American society. After the sober opener Bethlehem Steel and the melancholic Never
… Going Back, the band gets a bigger share, which gives the album a bit more spice and diversity. The Texan impresses again with her typical voice, excellent lyrics and beautiful, mostly acoustic accompaniment. Besides the beautiful subdued listening songs that Griffith can interpret like no other, there are real country rock songs on the CD like Waiting On A Dark Eyed Gal and Hell No (I'm Not Right). That diversity and candor on this album makes it a worthy successor to The Loving Kind. (BvdV)more
