Two extremes come together in flamenco guitarist Rycardo Moreno. As a gipsy from Lebrija (a village near Sevilla) he was born in the cradle of flamenco, where many related, almost extinct traditions are still alive and kicking. He also belongs to the vanguard of modern flamenco. Miesencia is an autobiographical account of both the progressive and the conservative side of the artist. We hear references
… to music at typical gypsy weddings, but also a lot of spacy synth work, effects on the plectrum-played flamenco guitar and jazz improvisation. The record was recorded live in the studio with a full band, which is visually beautifully captured on the included DVD. The album also contains an arrangement of a piece by the Spanish classical composer JoaquĆn Rodrigo, which was not appreciated by his heirs - to put it mildly. Because they are also the rights holders of the composition, Miesencia has now been officially withdrawn from the market, which makes it a collector's item less than a year after its publication.
