June Tabor is one of England's most intriguing folk rock singers. Since her debut in 1976 she has sung with the Oyster Band, the Albion Band and Martin Carthy, among others. On her latest CD Aleyn she sings eight edited traditionals and six original compositions, many of which are inspired by historical events such as the murder of a police officer in Croydon in 1953 or the demise of HMS Hood in
… 1941. Her style and especially the restrained emotionality , is reminiscent of kd lang, but the instrumental accompaniment, including harmonica and accordion, is more folk-oriented. Her rendition of the traditionals make this CD very worthwhile. (GO)more
