In 1985 Kate Bush releases her fifth album. She divides the record into two parts. The first half kicks off with Running Up That Hill, which would become one of her biggest hits (and later covered by ). The bombastic songs The Big Sky and Cloudbusting also become hits and do the disappointing reception of her album (1983) pale. The second half of the album Bush writes as a concept album and is
… about a person who is alone on the water at night. In this second part, the singer steers towards a more unconventional approach and proves that she knows how to forge pop music in an artistic way into a compelling story. With her typical voice she sounds fragile as well as dramatic. That she would eventually be labeled the 'Queen of art pop' is only underlined with Hounds of Love. The album would later return often in best-of lists and fits perfectly within the rest of her mystical oeuvre. (JvQ)more
