For a moment they got through a door again, Mike Love and Brian Wilson. The cousins who propelled The Beach Boys to great heights in the 1960s had been troubled for years, but took to the stage in 2012 to celebrate the band's 50th anniversary. A long tour, accompanied by a great reunion album, also took them to Japan. This DVD shows that their songs full of sun, sea and sand are also extremely
… popular in the land of the rising sun. The concert film, which appears to have been shot straight from the television, given the dubious image quality, shows many swinging Japanese people. They must be surfing in their minds. Unfortunately, the anniversary group brings little more than the hits from their early years. The artistically interesting material from albums like Pet Sounds, Smile and Holland is hardly discussed. As a result, this DVD hardly adds anything to the other reunion DVD Live In Concert (JKD6783), which also contains a nice documentary. The Japanese show takes a bit longer, but does not show any other side of The Beach Boys. (JE)more
