Due to the strong visual character of The Red Piano show that Elton John has given at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas since 2004, it was perfect for a recording on DVD. The show features a flashy decor (the red piano symbolizes love) and massive video projections that reflect Elton's taste in modern art and photography. There is room for 'fun', says Elton, but also for depth. David LaChapelle is
… responsible for the final development and he also chose the songs, preferring those songs that were visually the most interesting. It should come as no surprise that predominantly songs from his early days pass by, when he played songs like Rocket Man, Tiny Dancer and Your Song laid the foundation for a reputation as one of the best singer / songwriters of the 1970s. Although Elton's creative source seems to have dried up since then, this spectacular DVD makes it clear that as a performer he is still at the forefront of world entertainment. (MS)more
