Since the early nineties they have taken up their own untouchable place in the Britpop scene, the group Primal Scream around the Scottish singer Bobby Gillespie. With a hedonistic reputation and a sound in which both pumping house and dirty ass rock 'n' roll can be heard, they are also completely in their element on stage. That comes across well on this debut DVD. In the midst of his hard-rocking
… accompanists, Gillespie doesn't have to do much to thrill the packed audience. He is not a great singer and his movements and contact with the audience are minimal, but the roof is off with squatters from the entire group career such as Movin On Up, Rocks and Swastika Eyes and the MC5 classic Kick Out The Jams. In addition, the DVD contains video clips of all their singles and a concise interview with Gillespie and bassist Mani, that looks a lot like a course of shouting 'fuck' at a short distance. A well-meant 'fuck' that is, with which Primal Scream does what it 'fucking' wants, regardless of trends or hypes. (MR)more
