It will not be easy to catch American Willy Deville giving a bad concert. After all, the singer, tormented in the past by drug problems, is driven by a passion that can only be compared to old blues and soul heroes such as Howlin 'Wolf and Otis Redding. On Live In The Lowlands he performs once again with a full line-up (including two singers) and Deville, who looks like a wise old Indian, indulges
… in a raw and steaming blues repertoire. His well-known songs such as Cadillac Walk and Spanish Stroll are not forgotten, next to covers of Bacon Fat and Steady Driving Man, among others. According to the images, it must have steamed in Paradiso that evening, where this performance was recorded. Passion for music is also the keyword in the accompanying documentary full of interviews with, besides Deville, the band members. A nice document from a special artist who fortunately is still valued in the Netherlands. (MR)more
