The Swedish group The Hives balances success between mainstream and alternative and that is surprising when you listen to their uncompromising and distorted sixties punk on albums like Veni, Vidi, Vicious and Tyrannosaurus Hives. Perhaps it is the 'good looks', their cartoonish and humorous presentation, or the energetic Mick Jagger steps of singer Howlin' Pelle Almqvist that make the group appeal
… to a larger audience. It is certain that The Hives are a brutal live band and this DVD is proof of that. In an atmospheric Brussels hall, the roof really goes off with very tight and manic versions of Main Offender and Hate To Say I Told You So. The registration is preceded by a hilarious animation film in which a desperate journalist (voiced by Steven Van Zandt) goes in search of the band. In addition, this packed DVD contains video clips and television performances at Top Of The Pops and Later With Jools Holland, among others. (MR)more
