After the power trio, (in the early 10s) the power duo also began to become a more established band form. Examples like White Stripes, The Black Keys and Blood Red Shoes have in common that they sound boisterous; unencumbered by a bassist or other band member, drummer and guitarist can go in all directions. Britain's Royal Blood is another such duo and was already labeled a sensation at Lowlands
… 2014, shortly before this debut was released. Bassist and vocalist Mike Kerr makes his bass sound mostly like a guitar, conjuring one hard rock riff after another out of his instrument while drummer Ben Thatcher fills things up nice and wild. They also go wild on CD in songs that feature garage punk, indie and especially a lot of hard rock. Kerr has a high, slightly hysterical voice with which he can snarl enthusiastically above it all. Still, the added value of a duo line-up remains absent and in time you start to miss a bottom end and also resting points, as if they constantly have to prove how much sound you can make with just the two of them. In that mission they succeed, but that doesn't necessarily make for a captivating album (MR - 2014).This deluxe 10th anniversary edition includes an additional 11 tracks including many live recordings.
