Between 2010 and 2019, Chelsea Wolfe was quite prolific. In addition to six studio albums, two compilations and the
Live at Roadburn recorded in 2012 were released. After that, however - barring the collaboration with metal-core band
Converge, also created at Tilburg's Roadburn festival - it was conspicuously quiet around Wolfe. The reason is that the obscure American singer-songwriter decided to
… quit drinking and wanted to feel sufficiently secure before packing her struggles into songs. Consequently, even by Wolfe's (1983) standards, She Reaches Out To She Reaches Out To She has become a rather intense album. Both lyrically and musically. Influences range from Depeche Mode and Nine Inch Nails to Björk and Tricky. Just listen to the beautiful, understated Eyes Like Nightshade, which sounds like Björk singing Waiting For The Night by Depeche Mode. Or the thunderous highlight House Of Self-Undoing: electronic, gothic and industrial. Good thing she's back, sober and all. (RME)more
