It's quite possible that some older music fans can clearly remember when they first heard
The Trinity Session by Cowboy Junkies. In 1988, the understated Americana surrounding the fragile singing Margot Timmins seemed to come from another planet and blow away dark years of dull electro and overproduced rock. Real music, darkly reverberant and rooted in country and rock 'n' roll, recorded in a day,
… with a good microphone in a church. Even back then, the Canadian group excelled at taking classic songs such as Sweet Jane (Lou Reed) and Blue Moon (Elvis Presley) to their own ends. Songs Of Recollection contains more of these covers, which popped up in the repertoire throughout their long existence and have now been re-recorded. Still, the band cautiously crawls and meanders around Timmins' fragile vocals. It gives a new, often moving charge to songs by David Bowie, Neil Young and The Cure, among others. (MR)more
