Although Scottish band Biffy Clyro veered towards stadium rock on
A Celebration Of Endings (2020), they did so without losing their rough edges. On follow-up
The Myth Of The Happily Ever After they continue that line, but the band throws in even more styles. Opening track DumDum immediately overflows with bombast and A Hunger In Your Haunt has aggressive guitar riffs and pounding drum parts. Elsewhere
… synthpop and electronica creep in, but despite these excursions the tone on this album is dark in nature. By flirting with other genres, the Scots once again manage to give a fresh twist to their sound. Still, the 'classic' virtuoso guitar songs in which they lay down solid guitar rock belong to the best the band has to offer. (JvQ)more
