They were no strangers to Dutch americana circles either: the duo
Mandolin Orange. This couple of Andrew Marlin and Emily Franz from the American town of Chapel Hill (North Carolina) found each other in 2009 and since then have complemented each other on a variety of acoustic instruments and vocals. For their seventh album, they renamed themselves Watchhouse. On the eponymous album you can hear that
… this more subdued name fits their music better. In their quiet and sometimes dark songs bluegrass, country and traditional folk resound, mainly played by themselves on acoustic instruments like guitar, mandolin and fiddle. Marlin does most of the leadvocals, while Franz's second voice adds a beautiful touch of colour. Watchhouse is a warm and atmospheric debut. (MR)more
