The Wind is an album for which Balmorhea, now consisting only of the two founding members, took inspiration from the fragile and transient nature. The perspectives - from an old story about a saint who brings the wind to a French valley, to the ideas of environmental activist Greta Thunberg - are diverse, while the elaboration of the music is minimal. The duo brought their ideas with them to America
… and worked them out at a spot along the Llano River. The beautiful nature evoked a lot of peacefulness and they got their own place. They improvised a lot and worked this out in sparse piano arrangements. These are subtly coloured with details from wind, string and percussion instruments. Many of those details were played in by guest artists, such as Clarice Jensen, Morris Kliphuis and Aaron Xim. (JvQ)more
