Heard during a performance of the Black Lips, sometime in 2008: "Nice, but in every American village there is a garage band like that." Twelve years have now passed and the five from Dunwoody (a town in Georgia with about 50,000 inhabitants) have to do something good - or at least different. The crux is that they didn't get stuck in the unruly garage sound of their first albums, but went in search
… of a different sound. This has resulted in successful albums such as (2011; recorded with ) and the past decade.(2014). The Black Lips Sing… In A World That's Falling Apart may be added to this list. Singer / guitarist Cole Alexander swipes as usual, but now in catchy songs like Rumbler and Agola Rodeo that flirt with showy country. Here and there even a steel guitar pops up. Get It On Time, an obscure cover, also remains proud. Yes, everyone wants a band like that around. (RME)more
