As the title of this album reveals, Graham Van Pelt takes a dive into the history of dance music. The frontman of the Canadian indie rock band gets his mustard mainly from the minimal house music. Its pulsating electronics are reminiscent of the solo work of band member , who is not entirely coincidental on his record (2017) also paid tribute to the history of dance music. Van Pelt often keeps
… the tempo low, creating warm, almost ambient-like compositions. With bleeps and crazy noises, Van Pelt manages to build a contemporary whole, but the synthesizers always keep the listener with one leg in the past. The only downside is that Van Pelt's voice, in combination with the dreamy minimal music, can sometimes be a bit distracting and thus hinder a complete form of trance on some songs. (JvQ)more
