Also in terms of work ethic - this is already Vile's eighth album in ten years - and the apparent ease with which that output is created, there are some similarities with the enfant-terrible of Flemish letter art. … revolutions from the American slacker-rocker (1980). Consistent quality with some new accents here and there. In One Trick Ponies, for example, a charming country snicker sounds, thanks also to the second voice of Warpaint drummer Stella Mozgawa. The blissfully carefree Rollin With The Flow does exactly what the title promises, while Check Baby floats on an irresistibly thumping riff. The ease with which the former guitarist shakes up the songs, however, also has a downside. We hear that in some (much) too long songs. Skinny Mini in particular seems to never end. And then another, less flattering comparison arises: with Forgetful John from Sesame Street. (RME)more
