Even before her first album was released, Dua Lipa announced a big show in the Dutch concert hall Afas Live. The British singer of Albanian-Kosovar origin already had some hits to her name. She could be heard on award songs by and and scored himself with Hotter Than Hell and Be The One. These songs have made their way to her self-titled debut. The hits are accompanied by many more catchy songs.
Lipa has a recognizable voice that does well in thick dance productions. The raw edge in her singing - you could also call it hoarse - gives the light music much more character. Her self-written lyrics actually do the same. Lyrics of songs like IDGAF - a neat abbreviation for I Don't Give A Fuck - and Blow Your Mind (Mwah) are quirky and therefore interesting. The music of Dua Lipa is good, but with her singing she really makes something great out of it. (JE)more
