There is of course more than enough to say about The Amazons. To begin with, there is really nothing on the self-titled debut of the four rockers from Reading, England that has not been done before by say , or the last 20 years . Admittedly, The Amazons galloped into the UK album chart at number 8 at the end of May 2017, the highest position for a rock debut since that of in 2014, but still… Despite all the few original guitar riffs and lyrics full of whoah-ho's, the band is really doing something right here. The first half of the CD in particular is packed with instant festival hits that also remain intact in acoustic form. The drawn-out Something In The Water and the ballad Palace meanwhile show that The Amazons are not entirely a one trick pony. (RME)more
