The Polish group Riverside managed to work its way up to one of the most beloved prog rock acts of their generation in ten years, but on February 21, 2016, disaster struck suddenly. Guitarist Piotr Grudzinski died of cardiac arrest at the age of 40. The future of the group is uncertain, even though this album will be released ten months after Grudzinski's death. … to be an outsider. For years the quartet fantasized about making a spherical instrumental album. That wish came true at the beginning of 2016, and luckily Piotr Grudzinski was still there to provide the album with his signature, -like guitar parts. So Eye Of The Soundscape is a bit of a style break with the song-oriented prog rock of their other albums. The music is more akin to acts like , and . Still it is a welcome addition to their catalog and hopefully this double album turns out not to be Riverside's swan song. (PdK)more
