In 2016 it is almost 50 years ago that the English group Van der Graaf Generator was founded. They experienced their heyday in the first half of the 70s. Despite being influential in the genre, they never reached the popularity of prog rock fans like or . After a break of almost 30 years, Van der Graaf released a in 2005 , followed by a wave of creativity. Do Not Disturb is their 13th studio
… album, and it once again shows the extremely recognizable Van der Graaf sound. Familiar elements include 's eccentric voice and 's Hammond organ. Do Not Disturb has a suspiciously traditional start, but the sudden capriciousness soon takes over. The structure of the 'songs', the sounds, rhythms and melodies: almost everything is contrary and does not fall light on the stomach. Lyrically the songs are not light-hearted either: everything revolves around the passage of time, looking back, saying goodbye. Only here you notice that we hear three gentlemen in their late 60s. Furthermore, they sound youthfully fierce, virtuoso and energetic here. After more than 50 minutes of phenomenal rock hectic, the closing song is an appropriate resting point. Of course we never know what the future will bring, but this song sounds suspiciously like a farewell song. (TC)more
