In the United States and Great Britain, Eleanor Friedberger is a lot more famous than in the Netherlands. That's a shame, because New View is also an enjoyable album. It is the third solo album by the singer who initially formed with her brother Matthew Friedberger. Where the music of The Fiery Furnaces was sometimes subject to an abundance of ideas, Friedberger sounds more balanced on her solo
… albums. The singer herself claims that the musical change is a result of her move from busy Brooklyn to the countryside. Either way, New View brings back pleasant memories of and 's recordsmade in the 1970s. Strong songs, recorded with a traditional rock sound, in which Friedberger's relaxed voice flourishes. It's timeless music, so it doesn't really matter if the Netherlands recognizes Eleanor Friedberger's talent a little later than the rest of the world. (PdK)more
