Drummer John Convertino, admitted that the Calexico band members had never been to Mexico before. Remarkable, because the sound of Calexico is strongly influenced by Mexican music. … Mexican capital got homesick for the United States. Only sparingly, as in the Spanish-language cumbia song Cumbia De Donde, there are Latin influences. Edge Of The Sun mainly shows American roots rock songs. Burns & Convertino are professionals who also deliver a more than decent album on a weekday, but a stay in the largest city in the Spanish-speaking world could have yielded some more musical fireworks.
