Name and cover may suggest that John Coffey is a new hipster sensation from Canada. The good news, however, is that it is a band from Utrecht (named after a character from the movie The Green Mile) that deals in a mix of hardcore, emocore, screamcore and other scores. … for their music and that especially seems to drive frontman / roar buoy David Achter De Molen, is fully present, but John Coffey also dares to look further. That can turn out to be catchy choruses, epic intros and monumental instrumental passages. Especially by going off the beaten track, The Great News became an equally fierce and accessible scream album. Creative, dynamic and tightly played songs are the core business of this talented band.
