With the album The English Riviera (2011) Metronomy suddenly shot into the sky. After two previous albums that did little to nothing, this third album did appeal to a lot of people. Joseph Mount, the brains behind the group, wrote the songs for The English Riviera in Paris where he had moved to live with his French girlfriend. In his songs he brought back memories of his childhood on the English
… south coast. This fourth album has a less nostalgic tint. Mount was about to become a father, and knowing that gave him wings. At first hearing Metronomy's bare songs seem mainly indebted to the eighties, but other songs have a nice sixties vibe. Sometimes Mount's posh nasal voice is sometimes reminiscent of David Bowie's. 'I want to take you away from the horrible times' sings Mount in Month Of Sundays. With this optimistic album, this musical Sunday child absolutely succeeds. (PdK)more
